Fully Loaded Ford Ranger Returns

September 8, 2020

The Dual Cab Utility segments is one of the hottest with the current Australian Consumer and the Ford Ranger has been crowned King for some time now, combing High Levels of Safety and Tech, Class Leading engines and drive trains, Superior on and Off Road Performance and Bold and Stylish Exterior Package.  Part of the Ford Ranger’s success is that is has been designed and engineered for the most part in Australia, under tough Australian conditions.  So Even though it isn’t built here, you could say its more a “local ute” than any of the other contenders. Ford Have also had success with a String of Limited Edition Ford Ranger models in 2020 that give the customer more value for money in what is already a class leading act.  The Re-release of the Ford Ranger “Fully Loaded” is a perfect example of this.

The Fully Loaded adds to the specification level already offered on the XLT and basically ticks every Factory option available on this already well equipped ute.  Features added are the Factory Tech Pack, Quality Leather Interior and Factory Gloss Black 18 inch alloy wheels. Tech pack gives you adaptive cruise control and semi autonomous parking.

The Fully Loaded comes standard with the tried and tested 3.2 Litre 5 cylinder Turbo Diesel and a choice of either a 6 speed manual or 6 speed automatic transmission.  The 3.2-litre, five-cylinder turbo diesel still produces  a healthy and respectable 147kW @ 3000rpm and 470Nm @ 1750–2500rpm.  The towing capacity remains unchanged at 3500kg.

If the 2.0-litre bi-turbocharged diesel is more your style, it’ll come equipped with the 10 speed  automatic transmission only. It feels slightly punchier and livelier than its 5 cylinder counterpart, but that still doesn’t make the previous engine a bad choice. The Bi turbo produces 157 kW @3750rpm  and 500Nm @ 1750-2000rpm, with the same towing capacity of 3500kg.

There is a large amount of safety kit that comes standard with the Ranger which makes is class leading and helps it achieve it’s 5 star safety rating.  It scored a total crash test score of 36.72 out of 37 when this model was tested back in 2015 by ANCAP, you can view the results on the ANCAP website here.  Standard equipment is Autonomous emergency braking (AEB) with pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist, forward collision warning, trailer sway protection, anti-rollover mitigation, lane-departure warning, driver alert, traffic sign recognition and automatic high beam.  There are also front, side, head and rear airbags, along with seat belt minder for all occupants.  But wait, there’s more the “Fully Loaded” XLT comes fitted with the optional Tech Pack valued for $800, and you’ll gain adaptive cruise control and semi-automatic parallel parking.

One big strength of the Ranger has always been the interior, which combines plenty of tech with a modern look and solid practicality credentials. The SYNC 3 infotainment display has Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, native navigation and digital radio, all running through a well presented and easy-to-use operating system that’s intuitive and well within reach.

Ford Pass Connect is  now fitted to the Ranger which allows remote connectivity with the vehicle.

The entertaining drive of the Ford Ranger feels more like a passenger car – It doesn’t feel overly big or bulky to manoeuvre.  This is in part due to Ford being one of the first to ditch the Hydraulically-assisted steering and opt for electrically-assisted steering rack.  This still gives the vehicle a good degree of feel and weight to it but much more of a ” car like” feel when trying to steer.

Visibility all round is very good with out any pillars impinging on vision or major blind spots, the parking sensors make life easier in tight spaces.  The rear view camera also includes a zoom function which can greatly help when reversing up to a trailer or caravan.

The Ranger comes with Ford 5 year unlimited kilometre warranty* which is applicable to the entire Ford Range, including other commercial vehicles like it’s Transit range.

There is also capped price servicing available and you can log onto Ford’s website and access their service calculator not only for the Ranger but any of the range.  This allows you to know upfront what the cost of servicing will be so there are no nasty surprises during vehicle ownership.  service intervals occurring every 12 months or 15,000km whichever comes first.

There is plenty to love about the Ford Ranger you often hear people claiming its one of the best Utes in the segment and that’s simply the truth.  Ford was one of the first in the segment to load their utes up with features and technology more so than any of the competition,  and they have reaped the rewards.
