Nissan is know worldwide for it’s cars, utes, 4x4s and SUVs. Operating in more than 160 countries worldwide, Nissan is the fourth largest automotive company in the world, and distributes more than 5.5 million cars annually.

But I bet you didn’t know that Nissan has literally been to space.

The Orbital Rocket, named the Lambda 4S, was launched 5 times between 1966 and 1970 from the Kagoshima Space Centre in Japan.

The final rocket was launched in 1970, and was named the Ohsumi-5. It was the first Japanese Satellite to be sent into orbit, a year after Neil Armstrong landed on the moon.

Nissan also manufactured the Lambda’s successor, the M-V rocket. The M-V was over 30 metres tall and weighed 140 tonnes- that’s almost 100x heavier than the Nissan Qashqai!
