If you’re looking for something to do on this upcoming long weekend and are ready to embark on your first Four Wheel Driving adventure then this may be the perfect place for you to start.
Mundaring Power Line Track is great if you’re just starting out with the whole Four Wheel Driving experience and adventure, the best part is you can even tackle this track in a stock 4WD. For every challenge you find along the way there is a counter-part ‘cheat track’ to make things a little easier, but even some of these can prove a little difficult.
- The track is great for a day trip with it located only 40km east of Perth, along Great Eastern Hwy
- The closest fuel station is located at Sawyers Valley, just 1km from the track.
- Track length is approximately 24km in total
What to bring:
Air compressor, shovel, sunscreen, hat, plenty of water, recovery gear and tools, mobile phone and two-way
Best time to go:
All year round, keep in mind it can get scorching hot in summer.
The track starts near Sawyers Tavern in Sawyer Valley, it’s an actual power line track managed by Western Power but open to the 4WD community.
The track can take a good 5 – 6 hours to complete from end to end. Total time includes stopping for a few breaks along the way and taking time to watch others tackle parts of the track.
If you don’t want to tackle to whole track there are a few roads and tracks that cut through the power line track so you can make an early exit if time is running out or if you have just had enough.
When Four Wheel Driving it is always best to travel with at least one other vehicle, even if it is considered a basic track. Recovery is not uncommon, especially when it comes to the most difficult parts of a track. The last thing you want is to get stuck in the middle of nowhere with no way out.
