LDV Vehicle Heritage

It all started in 1896, with a 1.5 tonne steam powered van. Since then, technology has come – well, a little further, and LDV has been consistent with our commitment to innovation and development.

Nine years after creating that revolutionary steam powered van; we produced our first petrol-powered vehicle. Meanwhile, Morris (who we later merged with) was focusing on heavy commercial vehicles, really hitting their stride in the 1940s. Our Vans from this period hit benchmarks across the board. Austin – who we also merged with – was working away through the 1950s, venturing into producing utes for the Australian market.

The 70s and 80s witnessed these brands merge and with this, a renewed focus on creating world-class, reliable vans. By 1993, Leyland and DAF united to become LDV (short for Leyland DAF), and began to focus on specialist vehicles.

In 2010, LDV became part of the SAIC group – the biggest auto manufacturer in China and the 46th largest company in the world. SAIC has a product portfolio that is very diverse and with continued research, development and design they will challenge the top end of the automotive world.

Now fast forward to present day, and LDV continues to lead in the innovation space, starting production on electric versions of our well-loved V80 and G10 for the Australian Market coming soon.

We are fully committed to the Australian vehicle market and see growth with T60 Ute, D90 SUV, and of course our beloved vans. There is a lot of pride at stake here and we aim to provide the best cars for you.

There is no doubt that they are competitive in every way with car any brand for sale in Australia, and we are in the most competitive market in the world!
