Toyota’s upgraded bZ4X battery-electric SUV is now on sale in Australia priced from $55,990 plus on-road costs2, offering Toyota BEV customers improved driving range, increased performance and additional safety and convenience features.
The bZ4X lineup continues to be offered with the choice of front- or all-wheel drive powertrains, with both output and driving range improved thanks to the fitment of a new 74.7kWh lithium-ion battery and more potent electric motors.
Toyota will further expand its BEV offering in the second quarter of 2026 with the arrival of the new bZ4X Touring which will provide even greater powertrain output along with additional rear storage, perfect for customers requiring larger cargo volume and versatility.
Toyota Australia Vice President Sales, Marketing and Franchise Operations Sean Hanley said the upgraded bZ4X range offered incredible value for customers.
“Toyota is committed to delivering the best value possible to our customers and bringing them better product solutions as achieved in this new upgraded bZ4X model range,” Mr Hanley said. Better specification, greater driving range and the latest safety features are all upgrades which will be welcomed by customers.
“The Toyota bZ4X is a fantastic vehicle and a crucial part of Toyota’s multi-pathway approach in Australia. Since its introduction in early 2024, we’ve seen major shifts in the Australian automotive landscape – most notably the New Vehicle Efficiency Standard (NVES) introduced in 2025.
“At Toyota, we take a portfolio approach to NVES. As a leader in hybrid technology, we aim to remain self-sustainable while ensuring our electrified and internal combustion vehicle portfolios complement each other.”
In addition to the front-wheel drive model, the bZ4X is also available in AWD guise priced from $67,990 plus on-road costs2, and gains a considerable 92kW lift in power output to a combined 252kW.
Both grades benefit from a larger 74.7kWh lithium-ion battery, paired on 2WD grades with a more powerful front-mounted electric motor generator producing 165kW of power and 268.6Nm of torque.
The upgraded battery offers improved energy density with an increased number of cells, which helps contribute to a greatly increased 2WD driving range of 591km1 on the Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicles Test Procedure (WLTP) cycle.
Charging performance has also been improved, with 22kW three-phase AC charging system now standard on Australian models, which can charge the battery from 10 per cent to full in as little as 3.5 hours when connected to a 32A, 3-phase power supply.
With 150kW DC charging, the bZ4X can be charged from 10-80 per cent in approximately 30 minutes under ideal conditions.3
Engineers have optimised the performance of the eAxle integrated inverter, motor and transaxle, helping to reduce power losses and weight while enhancing output.
Paddle shifters have been added to the steering wheel, which are used to program four different levels of regenerative braking strength to suit the driver’s preferences.
Along with the powertrain upgrades, the bZ4X lineup has received multiple upgrades with 2WD models gaining newly designed 18-inch alloy wheels with two-tone aero covers, roof rails, puddle lamps, headlamp cleaners and gloss black wheel arches.
Additional comfort and technology features have been included as standard, including a larger 14.0-inch touchscreen multimedia system, two front wireless smartphone chargers4, heated steering wheel, nanoeX cabin air ionisation, a powered tailgate with kick sensor, and a 1500W inverter in the luggage area which can be used to remotely power smaller appliances.
Safety equipment has also been expanded with the addition of blind spot monitor with safe exit assist, rear cross-traffic alert, driver monitor camera, panoramic view monitor and an additional driver’s knee airbag, bringing the total number of airbags to eight.5
AWD grades add a second electric motor generator on the rear axle, that has also been uprated to now produce 87kW/168.8Nm for a potent combined output of 252kW/438Nm.
The AWD’s enhanced output helps to double braked towing capacity to 1500kg6, while WLTP range also increases significantly compared to the outgoing bZ4X at 517km7.
AWD grades also feature the X-Mode off-road traction control system, downhill assist control and vehicle stability control.5
New features for the bZ4X AWD include new-look, aerodynamically enhanced 20-inch alloy wheels, memory and reverse tilt function for the heated exterior mirrors, eight-way adjustable front seats, digital rearview mirror and radiant front-seat heating, which uses a set of infrared panels installed in front of the front occupant’s legs to only heat solid objects in the panels’ line of sight.
Customers gain further value via the Toyota Go loyalty program, with new private buyers able to pair their bZ4X SUV with either a complimentary 7kW home charger (not including installation), or a free voucher via the Chargefox public charging network.8
Valid for private purchases to the end of 2026, the voucher provides up to one year or 625kWh (whichever comes first) of free charging at more than 2000 public charging stations across the country9, while the 7kW Jet Charge wall charger provides approximately three times faster charging than a standard 3-pin charging cable, and can be upgraded by the customer to a 22kW unit with the customer paying the difference.10
Private customers choosing to finance their bZ4X purchase through Toyota Finance Australia via either a consumer or Guaranteed Future Value loan are also entitled to a limited-time deposit contribution of $5000 for 2WD grades or $7500 for AWD, providing even greater value.
Five exterior colours are available on the new bZ4X range, consisting of standard Eclipse Black and optional Frosted White, Liquid Mercury, Feverish Red and Saturn Blue, paired on 2WD with black synthetic leather and fabric upholstery, or the choice of black or grey synthetic leather on AWD.11
AWD customers can also choose a two-tone paint colour scheme for the four optional colours, matched with a black roof.11
